Beautiful, sustainable and chic…
Many ask me why I chose silk for my collection, as it is an expensive and difficult fabric to “manipulate”.
Since I was a child I have always been “hungry” for knowledge and I have always liked challenges.
This time the challenge was with myself: I always wanted to create something of my own, that reflected me and that made women feel sexy, comfortable and chic and it was in this material that I received the answers.
When I studied for my first master’s degree at Marangoni in Fashion Product Management, one characteristic of silk stood out to me: insulating, and although I thought it was only used in summer, I discovered for the first time that this was absolutely not the case.
Silk is insulating and in fact many under gloves for skiers are made of this material because it retains heat.
According to the Treccani encyclopedia: “A substance produced by certain species of insects (particularly the silkworm, the larva of the lepidopteran Bombyx mori) as a secretion from specialized glands called sericteries. The secretion emerges from two orifices called spinnerets in the form of two filaments, which, upon contact with air, solidify and adhere to each other to form a single thread called silk. The silkworm uses the silk to construct its cocoon (in approximately 70 hours), within which it encloses itself to undergo the stages of metamorphosis.
The continuous-filament textile fiber obtained from the silkworm’s cocoon through a series of operations, and therefore called natural silk (as opposed to artificial silk ➔ rayon), is then processed into yarn and then into fabric.
There is more and more talk about the sustainability of raw materials and although it was not previously considered as such, over time and in recent years this belief has begun to shake.
Many people write about the benefits of silk on the skin, first of all the hydrating effect on the skin, preventing wrinkles and skin irritation.
As already mentioned, by retaining heat it helps maintain moisture in the skin, thus having it hydrated and not dry.
Thanks to sericin (second silk protein) rich in carotenoids and flavonoids, antioxidant and antibacterial properties are added.
Investing in a quality dress is a great choice for your health! Not only will you feel confident in a well-made garment, but the right fabric can also be more comfortable and breathable.
